Soundtracks

Right now they're all from video games, but maybe I'll find some movie soundtracks to add eventually.

Cradle

Serene, chill and absolutely beautiful music that I just keep coming back to. One of my favorite OSTs ever from a game that few know of. This is just one of three parts of the OST, "Stories", music that plays during important narrative moments. The other two parts, "Atmospheres" and "Pavillions", contain the game's ambient background music.

OST on Steam

Armikrog

While the game may have been mediocre, the soundtrack certainly wasn't. Absolutely bonkers songs that mix pulp sci-fi alien synths with colorful 60s rock influences, and then sprinkle a bunch of weird high pitched vocals and robot noises on top. I can't get enough of this OST's unique flavor of craziness. Truly the work of a genius.

The Void aka Turgor

Four and a half hours of lonely and melancholic music from a very unique game. Listening to this soundtrack feels like exploring an alien world that is desolate and empty but also very beautiful in a sort of depressing way. This is fitting, as that's basically what you do in the actual game. It's eerie, offbeat, but never uninviting.

OST on Steam

Gretel and Hansel 2

This music comes from a creepy old flash game that was a dark retelling of the classic Hansel and Gretel fairy tale. I was fascinated by this game as a teen, largely because of the atmosphere created by the OST. Some tracks are mystical but foreboding, and others are downright terrifying. Impressive to consider that all this was made for a free browser game.

OST on Bandcamp

Hypnospace Outlaw

I can't not talk about my favorite game's OST. A collaboration between many different artists, their music is available in-game as the work of fictional musicians from an alternate universe. With so many contributors, it's no wonder the variety in this OST is immense.

Some highlights include the aforementioned Glamocaster, and Klyfta, a "cosmic rock" band that releases music in the form of long, psychedelic jam sessions. There's also Zared, who creates some catchy and uplifting 90s new age music. Barnaby's Chair, described by a YouTube commentor as "a more accessible Neutral Milk Hotel" and Seepage, a lovably cheesy parody of Linkin Park which sounds surprisingly close to the real thing. And of course there's also Chowder Man, a washed up 80s rock star who now makes commercial jingles - played by Hot Dad. A very meaty soundtrack that's definitely worth a listen if you enjoy fun and weird music.
